Message from the stars

Play this new original song.

I wrote this when I was away on recent vacation. Inspirations for this song came from a few places, as ideas and synthesis often does. I had just arrived, bleary eyed and travel shot. I happened to glance out the side-window of the room I was staying in and saw a madly vibrant colored moon. It was shaped like an orange segment, with a piece bitten out of it. It was so strikingly unusual that I tried to take a picture but couldn’t manage it, so I guess I write a song instead about this mad pink/orange/red moon. When it came to the feel of the music, I recalled recently thinking or hearing a Leonard Cohen track and wanted maybe that sort of feel. Slowed it down. The song itself indicates a kind of timelessness that is - up there in the sky. Sometimes I write a new song and move on to another one directly, but I spent the rest of vacation playing this one over and over. What do you think? Take a listen. Thanks.

Message from the stars

I looked out in the early morning, the moon was blood, and I was yawning.

Am I asleep, what does all this mean?

There's a funny shape up in the sky. Looks at me like a sideways eye

It saw the Romans, now it's seeing me.

Here’s the message from afar

You’re okay the way you are

Here's a message from the stars.

God loves us the way we are.

I got up in the early morning in a different time zone, coughing hawking,

worried about so much and what things mean.

Grabbed the guitar, made some chords, asked the universe for words

and this is what the moon it said to me.

Here's a message from afar

We're okay the way we are

Here's a message from the stars

Called: love is just the way we are.

Home James where the beast is bawling. I'm chicken Little and the sky is falling;

it's an apocalypse without my morning tea.

To tell the truth, I'm feeling older; wiser - stupid; coward - bolder,

It's a full time job, just being me.
